A rumble full of words. Trouble hides in herds
Queuing up to see the best of you and the best of me
A mumble full of lies. Trouble comes in wide
Creeping ‘round to be the worst of you and the worst of me
Echoes of a son echoing the one
Dissipate and ring. Resonate and sing
Echoes of the truth never fade away
They never fade away
There’s rust upon our laurels
No moss upon the stone turned upon a brother and thrown, thrown, thrown
No way to stop or silent
No way to kill the word echoing inside us by thinning the heard
Echoes of a son echoing the one
Dissipate and ring. Resonate and sing
Echoes of the truth never fade away
They never fade away
A tumble full of fears. Trouble ends in tears
Through them you can see the worst of you and the worst of me
A humble house of hope. Trouble on a rope
Reach down deep inside and free the best of you and the best of me
You can’t thin the heard
They’ve already been heard
You can’t thin the heard

Behind The Song...
Thinning The Heard
The original idea for the song came to me when reading the “News Of the Weird” column in the Hartford Advocate. On this particular day there was a sub-heading entitled “Thinning the Herd”. So I thought about that title coupled with my interest in the fact that so very many of the “Visionaries” we produce as a society we then reduce to ash. And though they are killed, the ideas they conveyed, and the reasons they were killed, remain in the world. I also wanted to bring into the song the idea that we all have within us the duality of good and evil and I recall an American indian story I heard about their being two wolves within us that battle for control of our actions...a good Wolf and a bad wolf. The story ends with the young boy of the story asking the elder how do you know which one of the wolves wins the battle for control of the person in the end and the elder answers..."the one you feed".
I carried around the song idea for several years until it finally came out as you can witness for yourself here. I think “Too Much Food” on Jason Mraz’ live concert DVD “Tonight, Not Again”was the musical inspiration for the groove.
