I’m headed to the shed to put down the dog Ma
I’m headed to the shed to put down the dog Ma
Out behind the shed I’ll kick ‘em ‘till he’s dead
I’ll put down the dog Ma
Full of growls ‘n bites
He’s fixing for a fight
Full of growls ‘n bites
He’s fixing for a fight
Fixing for a fight with anyone in sight
Behind the shed I’ll put down the dog Ma
Momma’s telling me beat the mongrel beast
Toss away his eats, his collar and his leash
Oh, beat the bag of fleas Momma’s telling me
Listen, like she said, head behind the shed and put down the dog Ma
Behind the shed I’ll put down the dog Ma

Behind The Song...
Put Down The Dog Ma (Remix)
The song is based on the concept of religious dogma and how it can, in my opinion, be harmful. Having grown up Roman Catholic, I have a bunch of baggage to ‘shed’ (verb) but, as I just this moment realized, ‘shed’ can also be the musical slang ‘shedding’, whereby you go someplace secluded to write songs and sharpen your chops...which fits perfectly. On the surface of things, the most popular place to kill a dog is out behind the rickety old shed (noun). Unreligious, cat people who dig country blues are perhaps the niche for this song.
