Alone ain’t so bad if you’re with the ones you love
I’d rather be with them then on my own
Sure familiar faces lay bear our big embraces
Careful not to hug your demon long
Too long
Living Hikkomori among mi amore
Underneath one roof that’s wearing well
Crowdfunding the enchantment of every sycophantic kissin’ cousin, in-law lovin’ mule
At two paces, duel
So listen to the shut in baby
He’s been there before singing to himself behind closed doors
Listen to the shut in
Listen to the shut in baby
He’s been there before singing to himself behind closed doors
Alone ain’t so bad if you’re with the someone you love
I’d rather be with them then on my own
Soon the empty places will fill with big embraces
Careful keep your distance
Be careful, keep your distance
Be careful, keep your distance
Domicile your sweet resistance
In the echoes of persistence hear the sound of pure existence on the line
Listen to the shut in

Behind The Song...
The Shut In (Day 180)
Though it would seem the reverse, the song started its life as The Shut In (Day 180) and as I was producing it I had Evan Kalish come in to track the drums (those heard on Day 180). As I had Jon Peckman coming in to track some of the other songs, I thought it would be an interesting exercise to see how Jon would approach the drums for The Shut In and called Evan to come and experience how Jon would approach it, because of all the drummers I have ever played with Jon’s studio approach is by far the most exact and well considered and Evan is a sponge to learn. So we tracked the drums with Jon that you hear as The Shut In. So initially I was going to use Jon’s track with the original Day 180 lyric, but as time dragged on it occurred to me perhaps a second version was appropriate to capture the full experience. So I decided to use the more accepting and tired Day 180 lyrics with Evan’s track which was a little less bombastic and to write some more energetic and less serious lyrics for the track Jon played. This is how we ended up with two versions.
