My American Lover she’s on fire
My American Lover’s pure desire
Doesn’t know what she wants
Want is what she needs
It fills the hollowness inside her beauty tends to breed in me and My American Lover
My American Lover’s on her way
My American Lover’s tempting fate
“Westward ho! Ya gotta go”, is all she has to say
Staring at the setting sun with breakfast on her plate
She’ll turn me on and she’s gone behind the things she’ll claim to never be
My American Lover
No more amour for poor fati
My American Lover
I love her

Behind The Song...
My American Lover
I was standing at an Open MIc night in Granby, Connecticut with the Host, my friend, Dave Costa, when a young woman from Brazil approached us inquiring about our mutual drummer friend (drummers get all the girls) Evan Kalish. Before she made a b-line to Evan, she parted with us by saying, “I’m gonna make him my American lover.” I took note and used the phrase for a song about loving my country even when it is simply being bat shit crazy. Loving something includes helping it to be all it can be and that includes calling it out when it is not living up to its promise. That is how it got great and that is how it is going to stay great.
