It's a fearful thing to love what death can touch
I read it on a tombstone as I stepped around the mud
and preceded down the row
and thought of those I walked above
and those I love alive
It's a fearful thing to love what death can take
I felt it in a shiver that chilled my every vein
as I came upon the stone
that stood alone
and bore a name that was the same as mine
For the first time I saw my mortality
It's reflection in the marble mirrored me
It left me with a new sense of priorities
To find and hold
and to bestow
my love on those
dear to me
It's a fearful thing to love what death can touch
I read it on the tombstone
of someone I miss so much

Behind The Song...
Epitaph
This song came about after the death of my Uncle who was the first person close to me to die during my conscious adult lifetime. On the back of his black granite headstone is simply my last name....it could be any off us. It will be all of us.
